Small Bat-Mitzvah at a kosher restaurant Submitted by: marsha on Oct 9th 2005 I will be planning a small Bat-Mitzvah in March-June 2006. My daughter loves Estihana in Manhattan (or Brooklyn). I have not contacted them yet. I would approximate 75 people.I would like a seperate area for the kids with a DJ/entertainer specific for that age group & maybe an artist as well. any suggestions?.(Funds are limited)

Reply #2 submitted by: Jackie on Nov 15th 2005 I looked into this for my daughter's bat mitzvah last year. Although I didn't end up using them (she wanted a dairy menu) I thought that Abigael's had a great set-up where they can accomodate crowds of almost any size. Their food is good too.
Reply #3 submitted by: Neil Wallin on Dec 8th 2005 If you haven't booked a place yet we have a brand new boutique special event hall in Cedarhurst (5 Towns) called Occasions specializing in exactly the type of party you are looking for. The person in charge is Abe Fuchs and he can be reached at 516-374-9200. They have seperate rooms and only host one event at a time. The food is unbelievably creative and they customize every menu. I don't know f they have your date available as they are getting booked up quickly because it's brand new and everyone is raving about the place. Best of luck!
Reply #4 submitted by: Yair on Jan 1st 2006 Hi, had my daughter's bat mitzvah at masada in brooklyn. It was amazing, the food, the music, evrything! They offer meat and dairy food, there are two seperate kitchens and a great mashgiach. Definately something to think about...718 998 8988
Reply #5 submitted by: jackie on May 1st 2006 I also looked into Abigael's but didn't end up using it, although they were VERY nice and have a very good set-up, because my daughter wanted a dairy menu. We ended up having our bat mitzvah at Va Bene, which was just lovely. The food was incredible and they made a huge effort to find out what would make my daughter happy, including inventing her "dream" pasta dish to be one of the choices. They worked with us on every detail and I was extremely pleased with the results.
Two Gems Submitted by: Michelle Sarah on Oct 7th 2005 Hey we discovered two dairy delights: Cafe K on Avenue K and Cafe Napoli on Coney Island Ave and M. Cafe K has no menus, kinda quirky cash only butthe food is great the waitresses were very helpful and the prices were very affordable, great fish and pasta! Napoli specializes in brick oven pizza and a very impressive selection of pastas, service was very good, around the same price range as Cafe K-both small, cozy, and warm. Try them, you wont be disappointed!

Chosen Garden Submitted by: george on Sep 29th 2005 I order from Chosen Garden all the time and one time I called them at 3:03 and they didnt give me Lunch Special any more because it finishes at 3:00 . They took their time picking up the phone and no matter how much i asked them , they wouldnt give me Lunch Special any more. Thats not very Jewish like and they need to change that and have heart. Very dissapointed from them being soo cheap.
Sushi Metsuyan Queens Submitted by: Sarah on Sep 29th 2005 Very good!
La Creperie Submitted by: Anonymous on Sep 28th 2005 Not a great place to have a party. The staff was not exactly prepared to work with a large group. While they seemed very kind and willing to work with you, they made the event very stressful, asking much of you (the guest) during your part. Not acceptable when you are paying them to take care of you. The food was fine. But the service during the event made it not worth returning to.

Grille 173 Submitted by: Anon on Sep 20th 2005 Food only average. Very poor customer service - personified by the owner.
A definite restaurant to miss!
Reply #1 submitted by: Eli on Oct 2nd 2005 Tremendous "Chilul Hashem" this customer ate entire dish minus a garnish and demanded a full refund because they didn't like the garnish. The customer was told what they were doing was dishonest and was fully credited.
The Purple Pear Submitted by: Gitty Yungrice on Sep 19th 2005 I think the food and sevice was just disgusting
Reply #1 submitted by: Chaim Stinkovitch on Oct 16th 2005 Maybe you just don't like classy food, and prefer your schmalts. The food is excellent, the service wonderful, and the ambience awesome.
A definite must!
Solo Submitted by: joe on Sep 18th 2005 I had the short ribs eggroll which was good, they serve something similar in prime grill, for the main course I had the black agnus Steak which was good also, but nothing like WOW! The steaks are better in prime grill, it was $45 just for the steak and get this it din't come with side dishes justa few carrots. The choclate cake (hot) at the end was very good, but typical like all rest.
The bottom line the food was good but not great and at these prices, it needs to be great
Beautiful Restaurant. HORRIBLE FOOD- Bar Muda Submitted by: Jack on Sep 18th 2005 Unless you are going solely for their "Mint Lemonaid" DONT BOTHER. I ordered "Cream of Garlic" soup. It had a very familiar taste and couldnt figure out what it was. When I was almost done my girlfriend tried it and was like "Is that techina?" im like thats what it is!
They served me hot techina and advertised it as "Cream of Garlic" I almost vomited on the spot.
Then came out my Penne pasta which was just as bad as the soup. I dont know how you can go wrong with pasta but hey, leave it up to Bar Muda. Tasteless pasta without all the toppings they advertise it to be.
My girl friend wasnt crazy about anything she had there either.
The place actually does happen to be nice. I just cant figure out why if you put so much into making the place state of the art at least invest in a good chef and a menu with a variety.
Will I go back again? Na.
Reply #1 submitted by: Rachel on Oct 23rd 2005 I happen to really enjoy Bar Muda's food! I think the food is great! I enjoy the Bar Muda shake which is a milkshake with almonds and strawberries.
I also enjoy the fish dishes like the Chilean Sea Bass and the Grilled Filet of Denise. they have some very good pasta dishes as well. and i enjoy their sushi. I would recommend it highly.
I've been there multiple times over the past few months and i really like it there.

La Creperie Submitted by: Rochelle Cheifetz on Sep 4th 2005 Had a luncheon for 15 people. They could not have been more accommodating. The service was good, patient and the food got better with each course. The fish was excellent. The Caesar salad had salmon that was a meal unto itself. The dessert crepes were decadent. It seemed you couldn't make a dent in the pasta entree, the plate was always full. Delicious and a place to put on your list of must go to.
Tea for Two South Submitted by: Yiddle on Sep 1st 2005 The food was really great.

Former Vice Presidential candidate at La Creperie Submitted by: Elan Kornblum on Aug 29th 2005 Senator Joseph Lieberman, former Vice Presidential candidate, stopped in to dine at La Creperie last Thursday afternoon. When asked, "what brings you here?", he says "the word is out that this is the place to go to."
Sounds like he knows more than just politics.

East Side Kosher Deli Submitted by: Zev Posner on Aug 25th 2005 If they were in New York - they might still have the best food - very good eating as they say - everything I have had there has been delicious and the portions are generous.
La Creperie Submitted by: Iris Weiss on Aug 24th 2005 My husband and I have been here several times this summer. The food is always wonderful. The time we brought our grandchildren (one and two) we were treated like family with crayons for the kids and special meals made for them. We love this restaurant.
Fabulous Party at La Creperie! Submitted by: Jennifer on Aug 23rd 2005 La Creperie was the perfect location for my husband’s surprise birthday party on Saturday night! Rabbi Gross and Vicky worked with me on every detail to make sure the "drinks & desserts" party was exactly what I wanted. They hired a great bartender to mix the cocktails and drinks that I brought in, and prepared and a beautiful buffet of hors d’oeuvres. Our friends and family had a wonderful time and all agree that the highlight of the evening was watching their delicious crepes being specially made right in front of them! I can’t wait to host another party at La Creperie and recommend it as the best kosher restaurant in New York City to have a fun and delicious party!
La Creperie Submitted by: MW on Aug 22nd 2005 The service was quick. Nice ambiance. I enjoyed my meal!
The Purple Pear Submitted by: Elliot Mitchell on Aug 21st 2005 I was very impressed, the service was great, the food was even better. I can't wait to go back again.
LA CREPERIE Submitted by: BARBARA GLATTER on Aug 17th 2005 The othe day I went once again to Le Creperie. I was very pleased to see that they had a lunch menu. Everything was delicious. The dulce de leche dessert crepe was out of site. The only problem I could see was the calories. I go to restaurants alot so I am used to seeing everything. I judge restaurants and their cleanliness by their restrooms. The restroom here was immaculate. Keep up the excellent work!
La Creperie Submitted by: Elinchik on Aug 17th 2005 The food was simply fabulous - we got four different crepes (2 regular, 2 dessert) and shared - my favorite was with smoked salmon and cream cheese. (their cream chees is original and delicious). However, I was sort of dissappointed by how close the tables are and how crowded it were (maybe b/c the restaurant got very popular, or because we went during the 9 days), but I had to rise 3 or 4 times to let people pass to their seats (we were sitting by the window). Definately a fun place to go with a small company, but not the best choice for a date.

Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Aug 14th 2005 The closest Jewish area from you is Skokie, IL- about an hour away. Ken's Diner is excellent restaurant where you can get deli. I guess you could drive there or see how much it will be to have something delivered. The restaurant's info is on this website.

La Creperie Submitted by: Yehuda Schwartz on Aug 12th 2005 Words don't adequately express the sheer wonder of this kosher establishment. The elegant combination of a tranquil atmosphere, overly eager and friendly staff, as well as superb food, surely guarantee this restaurant a place in the kosher restaurants hall of fame.
PS Ari is the best Mashgiach NYC has ever known--Kudos to him
