Eli Zabar has done it again. Known for his amazing bread, rooftop greenhouse gardening and gourmet markets, Eli continues to astonish with his latest venture, Taste Restaurant & Wine Bar at 1413 Third Avenue (at 80th Street). Executive Chef Scott Bieber, who Jay Walman of WQXR Radio calls "a rare bird - a contemporary American chef who abstains from fussiness and pretty presentations in favor of flavor, simplicity, craft and an uncanny sense of seasoning." In addition to the enticing restaurant menu, Bieber has created a Bar Menu of "small plates" that pair well with the exciting wine list. Taste's wine list focuses on personally selected wines that are small production, affordable and drinkable, from the distinctive regions that Eli enjoys most.
Not every chef enjoys the luxury of scooting downstairs and selecting the finest produce, bread, cheese, fish and meats on a daily basis. Taste, open daily from 6 pm, has an inviting 30 foot bar and dining room that serves both the bar and restaurant menu. An intimate dining room, cozy and inviting, is also available for private parties. It comfortably accommodates up to 50 people and also works well with a smaller group. Restaurant manager Daniel Rosen keeps everything running smoothly.
