Featuring live music on a nightly basis, Session 73 is a welcome addition to the Upper East Side's dining scene. The plush dining room is strewn with velvet chairs, couches and curtains, giving locals a vibe only otherwise obtained by commuting below Houston Street. During the week, patrons can hear music styles ranging from acoustic to jazz. On the weekends, rock and blues are the symphonies of choice.
There is a large bar area - which is extremely popular with the neighborhood mid-twenties types - located adjacent to the restaurant, giving diners a more private atmosphere in which to enjoy the international array of tapas at candle lit tables. The menu, broken down by continent, offers some of the more intriguing house specials in the area, as seen in the Session Roll - seared tuna wrapped around shredded cucumber in a wasabi sauce with pickled ginger. Trio Burgers, served with vegetable slaw and crispy onions have become a fan favorite as well.
A large martini and scotch menu compliments the young, sophisticated clientele. A wine list made up of California vintages rounds out the large selection of drinks enjoyed by patrons who frequent Session 73 from happy hour through last call, which is usually around 4a.m.
This is the place to be if you want to unwind, listen to music, and enjoy a sampling of world cuisine in an environment as pleasing to the eyes and ears as it is to the palate.
