Brazilian fare has found a home on the Upper East Side. Circus restaurant, complete with its namesake theme, has been serving high quality food for the last 10 years. The artwork and paintings on the walls draw images from the carnival environment, and in turn create a celebratory atmosphere where patrons are able to free themselves from the burdens of their outer surroundings – with the option to sit by a wood-burning fireplace during the cooler winter months. Forbes magazine states, “Circus is a bistro serving innovative Brazilian cuisine in a cozy and lively ambiance. A must stop.”
In awarding a two star rating to the restaurant, the New York Times affirmed that dining at Circus is like “going out to eat the way Brazilians do at home and making a party out of it.”
The food at Circus is unique in that - with the exception of sister restaurant Zebu further uptown - it is unequaled in culinary superiority. The signature dish, Black Bean Stew with lean cuts of pork, beef, and sausage, is served with collard greens, rice farina and a hint of orange. Tuna Canal de Acuca - seared yellow fin tuna, marinated in sugar cane juice and soy sauce and served with salad greens and tomato – is a perfect appetizer for with which to start the evening. A list of mouth-watering traditional desserts can’t arrive to your table soon enough.
