The Isle of Capri Restaurant was opened in the Spring of 1955 by Vincenzo and Maria Lamanna. What started as a small café later expanded in 1965 to become what is now revered as one of New York City's most legendary Italian restaurants. Now run by daughters Jane and Gloria and son-in-law Angelo, the illumination of "Mama" Lamanna's cooking is still enjoyed by the steady clientele that have been frequenting the restaurant for more than 30 years. An equally loyal staff continues to carry with them the inspiration of the founders. The main ingredient in the successful formula at The Isle of Capri is that of tradition. "A pasta dish created 40 years ago is made in the same precise way today," note the owners. Regulars insist that the selection of veal is among the best New York City has to offer, and that not even the famous neighborhood steak houses can make a steak as good.
Few restaurants have as much character as one will find while dining at The Isle of Capri. The main dinning room, decorated with colorful lighting and old family photos, is bordered by separate and private nooks where many a romantic moment has unfolded. At the core of the main hall, a large centerpiece complete with a floral arrangement, fresh fruits and vegetables, and an impressive array of olive oils denotes much of the old-world heritage that guests come here to experience. A number of private rooms are available for family celebrations as well.
Not many restaurants in New York City can compete with selection of wines found at The Isle of Capri. An impressively large cellar located under the restaurant houses tens of thousands of bottles, many of which have been with the family
for many years.
The Isle of Capri is sure to offer a memorable dining experience in a grand old-world setting reminiscent of a bygone era. PRIVATE PARTIES; PRIVATE ROOMS; ON PREMISE CATERING; PRIVATE DINING FOR 2-4; TAKE OUT; HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE
