Seo Restaurant is a traditional Japanese eatery that for the last three years has given New Yorkers a proverbial taste of the Orient. Serving only the freshest fish available from both the U.S. and overseas, the large clientele base is a happy mix of Japanese and American patrons. The ever-changing menu represents the seasonal changes in Japan. Chef/owner Katsuyuki Seo, who recently earned the National Culinary Excellence Medallion in 2002, notes that it is "very important to feel the seasons change in Japanese cuisine."
The large menu at Seo is broken down into a number of levels. The first course is made up of small appetizers that are created and recommended by the chef. Guests can then choose from an extensive list of starting platters and numerous salads. Larger main courses are then available, many created with a twist of European influence, as well as an impressive selection of sushi and sashimi, imported fresh daily. What makes Seo stand out, however, is their Inaniwa Udon menu, comprised of the finest Japanese noodles, which is similar to Linguini. The noodles are made from a selection of wheat, spring water, and sea salt. Traditionally, diners enjoy this portion at the end of the meal as a healthier alternative to most other desserts. Seo imports the noodles directly from the producer in Akita, Japan.
The extensive list of Sake, which is imported from the finest distributors in Japan, displays as many as 30 different selections nightly. All are available by both the glass
and bottle.
Having recently earned the North American Restaurant Association Award of Excellence for 2004/2005, Seo Restaurant will satisfy diners looking for traditional Japanese fare a stone's throw away from home. TAKE OUT; PRIVATE PARTIES; ON PREMISE CATERING
