Romantic candlelight gives Cafe Continental an inviting and intimate ambiance. With professional service, it has been a favorite since 1964 and offers a real taste of Italy. The Mariottis purchased it in 1986 and ran it with tender loving care. New owner, James, continues to run it in the same hospitable way the Mariottis did. He gets to know all his customers. He’s sincere, he’s passionate, he’s the quintessential host with warm and gracious ways that trickle down to the staff who are friendly and accommodating, especially Rossini, who has been there for about thirty years.
Golden Tuscan yellow and wainscotting cover the walls in the softly lit quaint dining room where photos of Italian vineyards grace the walls. There are also scenes from Italian villages, and the pretty chandeliers and sconces were imported from Murano. Relax and have one of their excellent cocktails at the bar and get to know the people; it’s lively and energetic with a great vibe.
Enjoy a complimentary plate of cheese, Italian salami, olives and peppers while you peruse the menu of Italian specialties that include escargot, and frogs legs. Don’t see what you’re in the mood for? Chef Leo will make you whatever you want. We loved the kale salad with avocado and mozzarella; chicken breast with artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes; smoked salmon; and zuppe di pesce was full of delicious seafood. The wines are mostly from Italy and California and pair well with the dishes. House made Italian cheesecake was superb along with the awesome biscotti.
Cafe Continental has long been a destination restaurant for so many discerning diners and you’ll feel right at home here with all the regulars.
